Houk to pilot Piper at Mid Ohio

Ayrton Houk will be taking his first steps in to F1600 racing at the SCCA Autumn Classic at Mid Ohio Oct 17-18. Ayrton first joined BHR virtually back in April. When the whole racing community shifted to iRacing during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ayrton joined BHR to run in the FRP iRacing Challenge. Since then, Ayrton has been working closely with the team to move from the virtual seat in to the real seat of one of the team’s Piper DL7 F1600 cars. That move will happen for the first time at the upcoming Mid Ohio event. While it is a race weekend, the team is treating it more as a test session. The overall goal for this first weekend will not be to win races, but to allow Ayrton to gain confidence in the car, build chemistry with the team, and set the foundation for the 2021 race season.

During the 2020 season, Ayrton has spent time racing karts, as well as racing ovals in the Kenyon Midget series. In the highly competitive Kenyon Midgets, Ayrton finished the season runner-up in rookie points, and fourth in overall points. BHR is working to develop a program for 2021 that will allow Ayrton to continue his oval track growth in the midgets, while also adding road racing events in the BHR Piper F1600 car. This mix of close wheel to wheel oval racing and road racing will provide the chance to further develop a broad set of skills. These skills will all be crucial as a young driver climbs the racing ladder towards Indy 500 dreams. Follow along as BHR helps Ayrton chase those dreams.
